April is Autism Acceptance Month

April is Autism Acceptance month.  How is this different from autism awareness?  Awareness, by definition, is the knowledge that something exists.  The idea of autism acceptance is to go a step further, from awareness to acceptance.  The focus of Autism Acceptance month will be on sharing positive, respectful, and accurate information about autism and autistic people.  A key concept promoted by the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network is that “Autism is a natural variation of the human experience, and we can all create a world which values, includes, and celebrates all kinds of minds.”
