June is PTSD Awareness Month; How Much Do You Know About PTSD?

Most folks have heard about Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.  From the name, we can deduce that it has to do with a condition that develops after one has been through a traumatic event.  PTSD is usually associated with veterans, since combat-tested veterans have inevitably been through trauma; however, anyone who has been through a traumatic event can develop PTSD (think crime victims, or accident victims).

Because PTSD does impact our veterans, the Veterans Administration (VA) is at the forefront of studying PTSD and developing treatment for it.  If you are wondering whether you or someone you know experiences symptoms of PTSD, or if you’d just like to understand it better, the VA has developed a comprehensive but user-friendly guide that starts with the symptoms and causes of PTSD, then takes you through the whys and hows of treatment.
