Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Final Rules Posted

The Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) has announced the posting of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) final rules. The final rules, along with several guidance documents, are available on the RSA website at: WIOA Final Rules.

For anyone not familiar with WIOA, it replaced the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and is intended to increase opportunities, particularly for those facing barriers to employment, and focuses on the important transition from school to work.  President Obama, in commenting on the passage of the Act,  stated it will “help workers, including workers with disabilities, access employment, education, job-driven training, and support services that give them the chance to advance their careers and secure the good jobs of the future.”  WIOA has the potential, through an increased focus on rehabilitation services and transitional services, for significant advancement in the employment of people with disabilities.

For an informative FAQ about WIOA, check out this publication by The ARC: WIOA: What it means for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD).
