September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month

September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month.  There are approximately 17,000 new spinal cord injury (SCI) cases each year.  Approximately 80% of new cases are male, and the primary causes of SCI are motor vehicle accidents, acts of violence (primarily gunshot wounds), falls and injuries that occur during recreational activities.

For more facts and statistics about SCI, check here: SCI Facts and Figures at a Glance

For information and resources, check out the United Spinal Association’s Spinal Cord Resource Center:  Spinal Cord Resource Center
