The U.S. Department of Education has issued a press release announcing settlements that have been reached in seven states and one territory regarding website accessibility for people with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) investigated each of the entities based on complaints they had received; however, each of the 11 parties expressed interest in resolving their cases voluntarily prior to the conclusion of the investigations. Education organizations in Alaska, Guam, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington all reached agreements with OCR that should enhance the ability of website users with disabilities to access information on the organizations’ websites.
