Do you know Jenny Hatch’s story? She is a young woman with Down Syndrome for whom a petition was filed seeking to place her in a full guardianship. She fought the guardianship petition and won. Jenny’s potential guardians wanted her to continue living in a group home where she was very unhappy. After prevailing in court, Jenny ultimately moved in with some close friends and is now making her own decisions about her life with supported decision-making. Since the court decision, The Jenny Hatch Justice Project was created, with the intent to “promote the rights of people with disabilities to make their own choices and determine their paths and directions in life.”
