Special education in the time of COVID: Tonight on KABF 88.3

KABF 88.3 logo: a black background with a yellow shape of the state of Arkansas. In black lettering, the words KABF FM 88.3, Little Rock, AR, on air since '84, with a radio tower motif in black.

On tonight’s Speak Up Arkansas, we’re talking about special education.

Thanks to COVID-19, the schools are closed – but across the state of Arkansas, kids are still participating in education through the use of alternative methods of instruction, or AMI. This has presented a challenge to educators and parents alike. For Arkansas students with disabilities who receive special education services and require additional therapies and accommodations, the challenge is even greater. What are the different services that children in special education receive, and how are the state and districts ensuring that children are getting what they need during this unprecedented time?

On tonight’s pre-recorded show are DRA Legal and Advocacy Director Thomas Nichols, DRA attorney Kyla Bishop, and Matt Sewell, head of the Arkansas Department of Education’s Special Education Unit.

Lots of great information on this one, so you won’t want to miss it. Tune in or livestream tonight at 5:00 p.m. on KABF 88.3 FM. And if you miss the show on air, we’re posting it on our website so you can listen anytime!
