American Sign Language (ASL) continues to be a valuable means of communication, but two parties in a conversation need to know it for effective communication. What if there was a device that could translate ASL into speech? Two undergraduate students from the University of Washington have developed gloves that do just that. While not the first ASL translation device, they are considered the most ergonomic. There is still much to accomplish before these gloves can be put to practical use, but their development looks really promising.
