Methodist Children’s Home operates multiple programs on a single campus. Police responses to this campus often do not identify the program they are responding to. All reports plausibly related to the PRTF or Qualified Residential Treatment Program/Group Home (QRTP) have been included here. Where we can be certain the response was to the QRTP it is noted.

Contact with family (Calls and visit schedule): Clients have regularly scheduled phone call opportunities. The number of actual calls depends on the clients wish to utilize these opportunities. In person visitation (assuming no quarantine precautions) is available every weekend and can be scheduled at other times as needed by the family or guardian.

QRTP – Staff reported Juvenile was punching out glass windows at facility. Upon arrival, Juvenile had punched out the front window of building; Juvenile had cuts on hand. MEMS responded and treated Juveniles hand, then transported Juvenile to Riverdale.

Child Abuse Hotline was called. CACD Interview on 11/5/20: Juvenile stated staff member got mad and slammed his right arm in the door of an office, after Juvenile had cut his thumb and tried to wipe blood on staff member’s shirt. Juvenile had bruising to arm. Staff at facility said they are working on getting video footage from when the incident took place.

QRTP – Officers responded in reference to Juvenile getting angry and punching windows; Upon arrival, 3 windows were busted and Juvenile had bloody hand. MEMS responded and transported Juvenile to ACH for a mental eval at staff request.

Staff stated Juvenile 1 was in disturbance due to him not wanting to give back his candy; Staff stated Juvenile 1 got aggressive and slapped Juvenile 2 before punching out windows, breaking 3.

Individual at police station stated she is an employee at facility as a Registered Nurse and was working on 10/22/20 at approx. 1420 hours conducting Zoom appointments; Staff stated Juvenile was called into the day room for her appt., and as she entered she struck staff on the left side of her head and neck with a closed fist causing her injury. Juvenile was escorted from day room and medicated. Staff stated she was also assaulted by Juvenile on 10/19/20 during a medical appt., causing swelling. Staff did seek medical treatment and was diagnosed with a concussion.

QRTP – Juvenile left facility but was shortly located and returned. Staff stated he simply walked away from the facility, in which Juvenile does frequently. Staff advised the doors lock, but only to outside visitors and that anyone inside can leave at will.

Officers responded to meet with Juvenile who stated he was assaulted and ran away from facility. Juvenile stated he was “jumped” and “scratched” with a stick by other children at facility. Staff stated she witnessed Juvenile scratch himself with a stick and then flee from the location. Staff on scene transported Juvenile back to facility.

QRTP – Staff stated that at around 730 pm, Juvenile was playing outside and shortly after she saw him jump the fence. Officers searched the area with negative results.

Officers made contact with Staff who stated Juvenile had returned to facility. Officers verified Juvenile had returned.

Received referral from Child Abuse Hotline; It was reported that a Staff member conducted an improper hold on Juvenile, where she placed her arm around Juvenile’s neck. When Juvenile stated that she couldn’t breathe and staff released her, Juvenile then charged at staff member. Staff member then put her hands up as if she was going to fight Juvenile. Other Staff intervened and separated them; Investigation is ongoing.

QRTP – Staff stated 2 Juveniles ran away at about 1340 hours. Staff stated they had left out the back door while she was getting a supervisor. Officers searched area with negative results.

Staff stated 2 Juveniles ran away. Shortly after Officers completed a broadcast, communications advised both Juveniles had been located and they were returned to facility without incident.

Staff stated Juvenile had ran away for the third time that day. Staff stated Juvenile said he thinks someone wants to beat him up, so he jumped the fence. Juvenile was picked up by an Officer and returned to facility.

QRTP – Staff stated Juveniles 2 & 3 ran away at approximately 0845 hours. Staff stated Juveniles waited until she did her checks, changed clothes and left facility through the back door. Juvenile 2 was cleared from ACIC/NCIC on 9/20/20 at 2130. Per Officers, Juvenile 3 was returned to facility on 9/21/20 at 1100.

QRTP – Staff advised Officers that Juvenile fled from facility at 1620 hours, jumping fence. Juvenile was cleared from ACIC/NCIC on 9/20/20 at 2137.

Juveniles parent stated she was trying to take Juvenile to facility where they have a room ready, when Juvenile jumped out of car & ran off; Officers drove Juvenile to facility and met with staff who checked Juvenile in.

Officers were dispatched to facility in reference to runaway Juveniles; While in route, Officers located Juveniles and transported both back to the facility.

Officers located 2 runaway Juveniles at gas station and transported them back to facility. An hour later, Officers were dispatched to facility in reference to those same 2 Juveniles running away again. On 9/12/20 at approximately 0815 hours, Officers located both Juveniles and returned them to facility.
