Methodist Children’s Home operates multiple programs on a single campus. Police responses to this campus often do not identify the program they are responding to. All reports plausibly related to the PRTF or Qualified Residential Treatment Program/Group Home (QRTP) have been included here. Where we can be certain the response was to the QRTP it is noted.

Location: Little Rock, AR                   Population Served: Children and adolescents in need of out of home psychiatric care in a residential setting

Contact with family (Calls and visit schedule): Clients have regularly scheduled phone call opportunities. The number of actual calls depends on the clients wish to utilize these opportunities. In person visitation (assuming no quarantine precautions) is available every weekend and can be scheduled at other times as needed by the family or guardian.

Police Report

Runaway

QRTP – Facility reported five residents had ran away; residents were last seen on 6/6/2020 at approximately 2345 hours; staff reported residents had ran away multiple times in the past; all five residents returned to facility, officers made contact in which residents informed officer that they leave frequently to get food and drinks, stated staff does not take them to get food and facility does not feed them well; officers walked through facility and noted dirty dishes and trash scattered through out the hallway; staff stated residents were lying about living conditions.

QRTP – Staff reported resident walking through halls yelling; officers made contact with resident in which he stated he was yelling because he wanted a snack; officers got resident a snack and resident stated he would calm down.

Reported to officers that residents were not taking their medicine or obeying the rules; residents suffering from COVID-19; officer advised to contact them if any altercations became physical.

Facility reporting ex-employee came to location unannounced after staff hung the phone up on him; ex-employee left location with keys to the facility and told staff he would “catch them outside.”

QRTP – Facility reported resident was outside with a stick and peers physically restrained resident when resident seemed like he would hit a window; resident broke free upon staff arrival and left facility; officers located resident at front gate upon arriving at facility; officers escorted resident back to facility without incident.

Staff reported resident was banging his head and staff went to physically restrain resident; resident then tore staffs shirt and started hitting staff; no injuries noted; officers transported resident to Methodist Behavioral Hospital without incident.

DHS employee reporting that resident was charged at by peer after argument; on 5/14/2020 resident reported two peers “jumped” him; no injuries noted.

QRTP – Staff reporting two residents were in verbal altercation that became physical; staff reported resident hit peer multiple times and slammed peer on the floor twice before staff intervention; officers noted slight swelling to peers ankle;

QRTP – Staff reported three residents fighting, two residents were fighting against one; officers noted one resident had bruises on his face and arm and other resident had injuries to lip and eye; both refused medical.

Staff reported residents mother being called multiple times by residents peer; peer spoke to mother and left voicemails stating he was going to beat up both of her sons and kill her; mother wants to proceed with charges; peer stated he did not make any threats.
